Hej!
How's life back at good ole' C.C.I.? Things here in the over-populated town of Stomsund (5000 people), in the frozen north of Sweden, are just booming - as you can imagine! No, seriously, you can never call a town so small outrageous, but we do manage quite easily to have more than our share of fun here.
I have been asked a number of times "Why did you choose to come to Sweden?" That question, I couldn't answer before, but now, after being here 5 months, I can. The air is clean, the people are nice and there's so much to see and do. The next question the people here ask is always, "but why Stromsund? It's so far north and so small!" That I have no answer to. I didn't have any
TUDENTS OF THE WEEK
The Terry Fox centre
The underlying goal or concept of the Terry Fox Centre is for young people across Canada to meet one another and learn about the nation. We met several people from B.C., a few from Alberta. a couple from Saskatchewan. one or two from Manito- ba, ten from Ontario. some from Quebec, a few Acadians. one person from P.E.I. and several from Newfoundland. The inter- esting thing about the Newfoundlanders is that they all talk dif- ferently. Just when you thought you understood one, another started talking and confused things again. All in all, the people were great!
Terry Fox food is defmitely something that everyone should experience ONCE in one's lifetime! The cooks were quite friendly. but their culinary endeavours were less so. The other staff and monitors were most personable and interesting!
The activities were extremely well organized and educa· tiona!. Furthermore. the guest speakers helped to liven up the routine and some tended to provoke a great deal of discussion.
Before we knew it. the week was about over. The Friday night included a banquet. a graduation, a variety show and dance which lasted until departure time the following morning. Tim and I both agree that the Terry Fox Centre was truly a gratifying experience!!!
choice as to where in Sweden. [ really wanted a large city, but amazingly, there's a lot to keep me busy.
First of course, is school. Ya, they do send me there once in a while. But it's not that bad. We have had a number of classes when we or the teachers didn't feel like working, so we ate cake instead. Don't get me wrong, they still make us work.
But that's only school! "So how does one amuse themself in such a small place?" you ask. Well, we have a fair amount of snow, so we do a lot of skiing - both downhill and cross-country. There's also facilities for almost every sport in this town. Finally, there's dances and parties all the time, and these Swedes sure know how to party!
So with the help of many wonderful Swedish friends, I am having one wild and crazy time here! But hey, I do think of my old teachers and friends back in Coll- ingwood once in a while. Everyone misses home from time to time!
Jaq hoppas att alit ar bara bra och vi ses nasta a.r!
