This spring, Candi Spitzig faced " A Thrill of a Lifetime" that was never aired on T.V. - she arrived for a 3 month-long ex- change to Germany without being able to speak any German! Naturally, she left with a fear of finding herself completely lost in a country without being able to communicate. Upon her arrival, she was met by Bernd Osswald and his family and taken to their apartment in Mannheim.
While in Germany, Candi visited Berlin and Bonn with other Canadian and American Exchange students. She found that the best part of the exchange was watching Bernd's face light-up when he discovered new things about Canada and realizing the similarities and differences between our two countries.
At the same time, Michael Doupe arrived in the Old Section of Rome for his stay with Marco Orlandelli and his family. pletely responsiJ?le for the partner as well as an experience to open her home to someone that she didn't know.
Ivan Vescovi's exchange partner, Paula Robinson was well- prepared for her visit to Italy after studying the language with the assistance of Mr. Beckett. After arriving in Stambino, she em- barked on an exciting stay, meeting new people and seeing a new country and culture. When she wasn ' t attending classes (like Latin!), she was travelling around Italy visiting such famous locales as Rome and Milan. Paula could not think of one drawback to having an exchange. She found that Ivan was just like a brother and was delighted at being able to show him places like Niagra Falls. She was disappointed that he never got to see more of Canada.
