ELECTIONS
The 1988 elections saw a break with tradition at CCI. For years we had experienced a rabble-rousing assembly, watching the various candidates appear, carried on the shoulders of their supporters, arriv- ing in a sleigh or simply walking in wearing a toga. They then made their way to a stage crowed with yelling and screaming individuals trying to give their campaign speech to an equally yelling and screaming audience.
This year, instead, each can- didate was given the opportunity to perform skits, dances, etc. during the lunch hour the day before voting, but no one decided to take advantage of this opportunity. In- stead, each gave a serious speech to a quiet audience the next day during the election assembly. Although there were a few harrow- ing moments when some tried to

voice their opinions on the CCI election process, the stage was given only to the candidates. We were allowed to hear the ideas and promises of all those running for office.
At noon, however, the audience was not quite as quiet as it had been during the morning. As voting was conducted in the old gym, a large crowd of individuals began to collect on the stage chanting, "Don't vote -- re-election". As the sit-in continued, a number of pro- testors were questioned as to why they wanted a re-election and several didn't know why, other than it was fun to protest. Mr. Moore and Mr. Liotta came to calm the group and to encourage everyone to return to class. On the following Monday, they were given their chance to voice their opinions at a noon-hour gathering. A small number showed up to continue the debate . . .
