      Don't think for a moment that C.C.I. has been a victim of stagna- tion, experiencing little change and always occupying its present loca- tion! The first school in our fair town was located in the kitchen of a house on Ste. Marie Street, but when space proved to be a problem, a new spot had to be found. Over the next few years, classes were held in such locales as 'The International Hotel' (now the Bank of Montreal) and 'The True Blue House (presently Galeport Manor Apartments). Both of these places acted as classrooms during the day, but at night reverted into drinking establishments! Following this, more suitable locations included a doctor's house, the old Town Hall (near the railway grounds) and the building across from the present War Memorial. Finally in 1874, a perma- nent site was found on Hume Street
and the school was designated a col- legiate. Up until this time, grades 1 to senior matriculation were housed under the same roof. Students came from all over Ontario to attend our high school and it was most unfor- tunate when it was destroyed by fire in 1923. Three years later, a new school was completed and this serv- ed the needs of the community until 1954. The former C.C.I. was renam- ed Admiral Collingwood Public School and the doors were opened to the new school at the corner of Cameron and Hurontario Street. Dur- ing the next couple of decades, fur- ther additions and renovations were made to C.C.I. Throughout it's long and proud history, hundreds of thousands of students have graduated from its hallowed halls of learning, each carrying the same thought-
