Collingwood Collegiate Institute presented "Oklahoma!" for three nights in April. May 15th Collingwood Council hiked taxes in the Municipality by 11.2% - Increases were blamed on the School Board for not being "more responsible", and the province for funding cutbacks.
A ground breaking ceremony for the 2.4 mil- lion dollar Health Centre was held in June. The Centre was expected to be completed in February 1990 and is located on Moberly Street.
Less that 20 people showed up for the first Georgian Triangle Waste Management Plan public meeting held at the Collingwood Lei- sure Centre.
On June 20th Collingwood experienced its first homicide since 1977 when 33 year old Debbie Timlock was found stabbed to death in her Oak Street apartment.
The Simcoe County Board of Education of-
ficially eliminated "The Lord's Prayer" for opening exercises at county schools. To have continued the prayer, multi-faith readings would have also had to be made available. County response was overwhelmingly against this and the Board moved to strike the prayer.
On Tuesday, August 8th police forces em- barked on a "torch run" to raise money for the Special Olympics. This was the first time that Collingwood was included in the run which is held across the province. The-Amnesty International group at CCI held a vigil at Blue Mountain Mall to demonstrate against the death penalty.
A pro choice abortion march took place in Collingwood in the month of October (14th). Marchers visited the Collingwood consti- tuency office of Perrin Beatty, MP for Wellington-Grey Dufferin-Simcoe and Minis- ter of National Health and Welfare who was out of town at the time. The march was part of national day of ACTION.
The Simcoe County Board of Education op- ened the Collingwood District Administrative Centre on Maple Street.
Word was received that Collingwood and Barrie will co-host the 1991 Ontario Winter Games. It will be the first time in the history of the games that two communities will co- host the event.
Back injuries have forced Collingwood's Kel- lie Casey to retire from the Canadian Woman's World Cup Ski Team.
The Collingwood Crises Center has a home! A house to fit the role was purchased at 140 Sixth Street. The Center may be operational by spring of 1990.
A survey on Sunday shopping indicated that members of the business community in Col- lingwood should decide whether they should be opened on Sundays. Collingwood Coun- cil passed a bi-law prohibiting the establish- ment of "adult entertainment parlors" within the municipality.
Shawn Brock and Micheal Doupe are ho- noured by the town for their part in rescu- ing a drowning swimmer. Superb' C.C.I. is very proud of you and your quick thinking.
