Wouldn't you know it? After all this time , we final- ly have learned to pronounce Mr. VandeWeerdhof's name and perhaps some of us, have even learned how to correctly spell it. We just think that all is right and along comes our new vice-principal! Now we know that he's a terrific person, but if we thought we had trouble with Mr. V's name, we are really stumped on Mr. M-i-c-k-e- no, that's not it- a - no - i --- what-ever. Two months into the new school year and we were still floundering with his name. When various students were stopped in the halls and asked the question, "Do you know the name of our new vice-principal and how do you spell it?", most failed the test. Some immediately admit- ted defeat, others tried to bluff their way (for ex- ample, "You have heard of that rock star, Sid Vicious? Well, this is his brother, Micky Vicious". Nice try, guys!) and the few and far between were close, but alas . . . 'no cigar'! Leigh Stubbs receiv- ed some marks. "I can't pronounce his name, but I know who he is'" Jenn Kinnear was in the ball park "Micke . . no . . Mickevicous" to which Laura Spiers replied, "Is that even close?" For once, An- drew Hansen was totally lost for words. "Our new v-pis...ok...ok...isMr.Micke...ok... ok .. . Mick ... oh, I don't know!" Kevin Teekens was completely honest. "No, I don't know!" Jason Thompson displayed total confidence in his responce. Too bad it was wrong. "Yes, I do. It is Mickavicus! Am I right, Randy???"
Of the many that were asked this question, there was only one student that was able to provide an ยท immediate and totally correct answer. It was some- one named Randy who "thought I might be able to do it!" Wonder how he knew???

It was truly a big year in the Art Department. First , there was the trip to New York City in the fall and second semester saw 3 classes of budding C.C.I. artists participating in an all day sketching trip to Blue Mountain. Here their drawing abilities were put to test in trying to capture the beautiful natural surroundings on paper. The months of March and April saw about 40 C.C.I. works of art on display in the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts Travelling Student Art Show that visited various libraries, art galleries and high schools throughout our area. James Reeves, the fantastic student artist who painted the library/ art gallery mural last year, was back at work this year spending hours on his pointalist draw- ing of David Wilcox on the display board in the front hallway. Upstairs one Graphics class was given the opportunity to participate in the Annual Ad Craft competi- tion. This community - linked project, where newspaper ads are designed by students and published in our local newspaper, is always popular with students and readers alike. This year also saw the introduction of a photography/ design course -the results of which you are looking at right now!
