As Science teachers, we like to think that every class is a highlight. What else can compare with the intellectual joy of solv- ing a physics problem with the wonder of understanding the D.N.A. molecule in biology or the satisfaction of balancing a com- plex chemical equation??? We are sure that you see our pointIll When every period titillates the senses and stimulates the in- tellect, how the heck do we pick the highlights???
Field trips are a change in the pace of a course, and thus could qualify as a highlight. Planning a proper field trip is difficult. It should illustrate or enrich the course, not be too expensive and preferably utilize resources not too far away. The Science depart- ment certainly satisfied this criteria as the OAC class travelled to the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, the grade lOs com- pleted a pond study, the grade 11 toured Mclaughlin Planetarium and the grade 9's got a 'taste' of agriculture with their Beaver Valley Apple Tour.
