At 6 a.m. on February 14, 1990, 31 French students accompanied by Mr. & Mrs. Russell left for their French Immersion Excursion to St. Donat, Quebec. After arriving at Chateau Montcalm, finding their rooms and eating dinner, everyone took part in Carnival night sur- rounded by approximately three feet of snow. Thursday and Friday everyone skied at La Reserve Resort, studied the architecture of St. Donat and discovered the great outdoors surrounding the hotel on snowshoes. Evenings were spent learning about the folklore of Que_bec, doing improvisations, solvmg a mystery, playing broom- ball, and every night, getting ac- quainted with the other students at

certificate of distinction. Certificates of d1st1nct1on are also awarded to Eric Simp- son , Stuart Currie + Stephen Crowe . C.C.J. placed third in zone 64 which en- compasses schools from North of Toronto to North Bay.

Highlights included Teresa winning the $25 draw for speaking French, Greg winning the Gold Medal, and Shawn winning th_e Bronze for skiing, Ryan's three st1tches and a sprained thumb Malcolm and Laurie's frost-bitte~ ears, an~ Nicky's shakes. Everyone agreed 1t was a spendid time and most of us are looking forward to St. Donat in 1991. A Ia prochaine!
The Moderns Dept. welcomed 3 exchange students to C.C.I. with Laurie Maclean being twinned with Genevieve Lalonde from Rimouski, Que., Jodi Rabbitts welcomed Lara Romero-Giron from Spain and Gilda Antonelli from Ita- ly who joined Jacqueline Spears.

On February 22, C.C.I. participated in the Canad1an Mathematics Competition. Th1s year, the competition challenged over 61 000 Canadian students in grades 9 10 and 11 in high school. Sponsored by' the Umvers1ty of Waterloo, this contest was designed to provide enrichment oppor- tunities and intellectual challenge for Canada's brightest students in mathema- tics. The results are as follows:
In the grade 9 Pascal Competition. C.C.I. placed 14th out of 21 schools in gam' 64. Letters of distinction are awarde 1 to Susan Haynes+ Dave Phillips for rar ~ing 1n the top 25% of all contestant in Canada. Susan also received a meda . for the top C.C.J. Pascal student.
The grade 10 Caley team played 15th out of 19 schools with special recognition ~omg to Stefan Somborae for ranking first 1n the ent1re game. Stefan received a let- ter of distinctions as well as a medal for also being top Grade 10 at C.C.J.
