"Geography is my life" and "Happy motoring" are just two favourite sayings of long time geography sage and teacher Mr . W.A.A . Hunwicks. For the last 20 years there has been a "geography team " at C.C.I., consisting of fearless leader David Knox. Mr. Knox's claim to fame is having defeated the famous leader David Knox. Mr. Knox's claim to fame is having defeated the famous sub- way marathoner Rosie Ruiz in the 1980 Boston Marathon. So, if you end up in Mr. Knox's class, be prepared for urban field trips by slide and video which follow famous marathon routes! In his spare time, Mr. Knox figures out the Geo- graphy Department's budget.
During May, 1989, Mr. Hunwicks put the OAC students through their paces in Peterborough , Ot- tawa and Montreal, along with sidekicks, Mr. Berni and Mrs. Wilkinson. The agenda included a study of the native petroglyphs near Peterborough to Carleton U.'s urban hike of Ottawa, to Mr. Ber-
ni's expert subway tour of Mon- treal. Mr. Knox, Mrs. Chaudet and Mr. Haiduk proved to be no slouches either when it came to conducting field trips. In the spring and fall , over 30 students travell - ed to Niagara Falls for an overnight stay . These CCI geographers were allowed to test their skill in the hotel pool and their bravery on the biggest ferris wheel in the world. Mr. McCarl must be thanked for his assistance on the trip. Toronto seemed to be the most favorite locale for many geography groups as Mr. Haiduk's, Mr. Darlington's, Miss Meredith 's and Mr. Hunwick's classes explored the city via the subway. In September, OAC students attended the En- vironmental Conference at the On- tario Science Centre firing up many students such as Matt Stribling to start up a local chapter of Greenpeace. Oac student Carrie McKay placed third in the Senior Division of the Trent University mapmaking contest. A great year for the geography department.

Mr. Brian Traynor, as head of Special Services, is responsible for providing programmes for many students within our school. However, perhaps Mr. T. is most noted for 'hawking' his continual supply of chocolate covered almonds, right Mrs. Horner???
