Why is Ryan McNichol smiling? That's easy - he just heard on the radio that it's a Snow Day at C.C.I.!!!
October 2nd of 1989 saw the first snowfall of the season and from that moment on , everyone at C.C.I. sat with their fin~ers crossed and their ears glued to CKCB each morning watttng for John Ntchols to sp~ak those magical words, "The buses for Area 4 are not runnmg today!" However , fate was not with us for weeks. Some days arrived with the wind howlin~, the snow blowing and the temperature dropping and sttll those mtghty yellow beasts travelled the highways and backroads. Finally on December 4th we received a totally unexpected surprise. John read the report at 8:15 a.m. C.C.I. had been closed because of no hydro in the en- tire town!!!
Let It Snow, Let It Snow
Will Buckindale tried to cover his great disappointment of
having the school closed by spending the day ski-dooing. He was on the bus when it turned around and returned each student home. Shane Black too shared in his disappointment of not being able to attend classes. After hearing the news from a friend, he decided to sleep in and then go downtown in the afternoon. Shane Bendell felt that since he couldn't go to school, he might as well go to work at John's Car Wash and earn a few extra Christmas dollars. Lori Chessell was given the bad news when she arrived at school. In order to overcome the letdown of no classes, she simply went home and went back to bed. Robert Fitzsim- mons too felt the best way to handle a snowday was to remain in bed- to at least 10:30 a.m. Tim Newbigging took a similar approach, but stated that noon was a more sensible hour in which to remain in bed. Trevor Grummett disagreed . "My favorite thing to do is go to school, but if I can't do that, then I stay home and sulk by watching t.v.! Sometimes I'll even just sleep!" Sue Metheral's snowday theme should be 'Born to Shop'. She finds that spending money and visiting a variety of stores and shops helps ellivate her disappointment at not being able to present seminars and write essays. C.J. Dennis was able to combine the best of both worlds -she slept in 'til11 and then went shopping. Please don't think for a mo- ment that it was just the students that were upset that the area was ex- periencing a power failure . Mr. Mickevicius was very distressed when he found that Becker's was unable to make their morning coffee!!
