Basketball - it's a game that gets into your blood. This year's Senior Girl's basketball players prove this point. Throughout their High School careers, not only did these young women learn and play the game themselves, but they have continued the C.C.I. tradition of by teaching this great game to C.C.I.'s next generation ofbasketball players. Their dedication to the game as players was no- ticeable all season. Leading busy lives, both in and out of school, they still found the time and energy to devote themselves to learning the finer points of the game and to do their utmost in applying these skills in all their games. Their "finest hour" was their strong showing in the final game of the season against Barrie North. De- spite a three point loss, in the opinion of their coach and many of the pro-North spectators, the girls played mag- nificently. They ended the season, and for some, their High School basketball careers. With mixed feelings, the school and Coach Liotta bids farewell, wishing them the best in their future endeavours. And to the returning players continued success next year in basketball and in life.
The Junior Girls Basketball team had a successful sea- son ending in second place after league play. Unfortu- nately they lost in the first round of playoffs and couldn't continue to show their best abilities. On our only road trip to Wiarton, they learned to appreciate our two dou- ble gyms after playing on a small court where the walls made the boundaries and the tiny stage served as the team bench. Small town living also meant they had to cope without fast food outlets. Coaches Haiduk and Stu- kas were very pleased with their performance all sea- son as we had lots of FUN!
The 1992 basketball season was a successful one for the Midget Fighting Owls. The team finished in first place in league play with a 9-1 record, losing only once to Bar- rie North. In play-offs, C.C.I. defeated 4th place Alliston and then lost a close game to second place Barrie North. In the next round ofplay-offs, the teams travelled to Mid- land to defeat the home team and gain a spot in G.B.S.S.A. play-offs. On Saturday, Nov. 21, we travelled to Barrie Innisdale to meet O.D.C.V .I. in G.B. play-offs. Despite early foul trouble, we held over our own during the first half, but O.D. put the pressure on in the second half and managed to defeat the Fighting Owls. The team played well throughout the season and the future looks good for C.C.I. girls' basketball. Coaches S. Stoutenburg and K. .Wilkinson
