The Sr. Tennis Team had a very successful year by win- ning the South Simcoe Regional Tournament with 1st place victors by Megan Maurice in Girls Singles + 2nd place fin- ish by Jen Weis and Carol Patten in Girls Doubles. A 2nd place finish in Mixed Doubles by Natalie Maurice and Guy Krenger, and 3rd place finishes by Corey Stephenson and Derek Seymour in Boys Doubles and by Tracey Hodgins and Jody Blakeman in Girls Doubles. The strong team went on to G.B.s placing a second to Markham on the strong effort by Corey and Derek winning the G.B. title for the 2nd. straight year. Carol and Jen played superbly coming in sec- ond, and Megan Maurice coming in third in Girls Singles. The Tennis Team has now become one ofthe perennial pow- ers in G.B. tennis! The members ofthis year's Tennis Team (TOP LT.) were (BK.RW) Mrs. Kristy, Randy Still, Corey Stephenson, Gareth Corrigan, Jody Blakeman. (FR.RW) Ca- rol Patten, Jen Weis, Megan Maurice, Derek Seymour, Nat- alie Maurice, Angie Coon. Absent were: Guy Krenger, Clint MacDonald, Justin Scanlon, Tracey Hodgins, Kit Redding, Stephanie Graham, and Mr. Nickel. On May 14, 1992 at the Collingwood Invitational Tournament, our Junior Golf Team was led by Pete Crompton (83), Ryan Sly (84), Jon- athan Kells (87) and by Kevin Garbutt (89) with a total score of 343, placed first in the tournament. Ed Akitt and Jay Wiele also played on the team. Our seniors were Mike Mel- nyk (80), Eric Sandell (84), Steve Siminato (85) and Jeremy Cunningham (90). These scores totaled 339 and placed in a tie for second. Other seniors were Mike Fawcett and Chris Mercer. On Tuesday, May 19 the Junior Golf Team com- peted in the annual G.B.S.S.A. Junior Tournament to fin- ish a strong second behind Innisdale of Barrie at 340. Kevin Garbutt led the C.C.I. boys with an 80. On Wednesday, May 20 at the G.B.S.S.A. Tournament, the Senior Team put on a very strong showing in placing 3rd with a team score of 328. Mike Melnyk from C.C.I. had the second lowest score in the tournament with a 76. On September 28th the junior team was led by Ben Smith with an 85, Chris Melnyk with an 86, Andrew McKay with an 88 and Ed Akitt with 100 at the Huronia Invitational Tournament. These scores gave the Fighting Owl squad a third place finish in the fifteen team event. On October 1st there, were teams from fifteen area highschools participating in the Huronia Invitational tournament. Mike Melnyk led the Senior team with a 77, the second best individual score in the tournament. The other scores that counted for the team were an 84 by Jonathan Kells, an 87 by Eric Sandell, and an 88 by Jay Wiele. Ri- chard Morris also played on the team. With only four scores counting per team, our best four total of 326 was good enough to give the Fighting Owl squad first place by a margin of sixteen strokes. This victory was the first by our Senior team in the fourteen year history of the tournament! The mem- bers ofthis years Junior and Senior golfteam are:(MID.LT) Jeremy Cunningham, Steve Siminato, Eric Sandell, Mike Melnyk, Brad Weldon and Mike Fawcett. Also on the team were (BOT.LT) Pete Crompton, Ryan Sly, Jonathan Kells, Kevin Garbutt, Jay Wiele and Ed Akitt.
