OUTDOOR ED.
A year of anticipation is spent looking forward to the Minn-A-kee program, spending the semester outdoors in the fresh air and aban- doning the social disarray of school to become close to 19 new friends. Everyone believes that the next 5 months are going to be an inspira- tion to their future acceptance ofnature and, more importantly, a great time for all. This belief is more illusion than reality as the first few weeks are spent learning about exhaustion - mostly exhaustion with some cold. Skiing and snowshoeing everyday through whatever Mother Nature decides on is a learning experience that soon won't be forgotten.
Mountain biking, canoeing + hiking are three reasons we will be brave for the next 4 months. While many recline in their hard chairs and listen to the philosophical ramblings of a teacher, we will vaca- tion in our mountain resort, learning the rules of nature from our men- tor, Mr. Nickel. The Minn-A-Kee class of '93 were: Rachael Barrett, Karrie Baulke, Oliver Blake, Kelly Clarke, Michael Dunning, Jeremy Hall, Jason Lang, Ryan Martin, Luke McCaffrey, Jody McQueen, Ri- chard Morris, Kevin Paterson, Teresa Plater, Melanie Prowse, Randy Ruttan, Jennifer Schell, Jonathon Simpson, Ben Smith, Tyler Spies and Jason Weis. TOP LT.: Karrie Baulke smiles although she just spent the coldest night ofthe winter sleeping outdoors. MID. RT.: Fac- ing the elements each day is Randy Ruttan. BOT. LT.: "Hey Luke,
/ are you sure that this is the right way?" BOT. MID. Ben Smith starts to pile up the snow which will become his home for the night. BOT. RT.: Melanie proves that a few hours working hard in the fresh air
will cause anyone to need a few zzz's!
