Grade 10 is a year in which vast amounts of in- formation are gained and disseminated by students - and admittedly a high percentage of this infor- mation is of a social nature. It is for this reason that for many Grade Ten students, the telephone is a very handy piece oftechnology, used with ver- bose abandon as frequently as possible.
When questioned on telephone habits, one anon- ymous student claimed that she talks on the phone "all night, from when I get home to about 2 AM, with a half hour for supper" Cathy Gillies' re- sponse was " ... depends on how long it is before my ears and mouth go numb". Brian Hopp\e claims that he once completed a conversation of "8 hours, 22 minutes and 17 seconds". Jen Redding's response to the time spent on the phone question was "too much!".
Despite the fact that countless hours are spent on the phone over the school year, some conversations remain more memorable than others. Cathy Gil- lies' most memorable was "talking to a wrong number for half an hour''. Liarn Bryans distinctly remembers "winning 100 dollars" over the phone. Jen Muenz's response was "can't remember!".
Long, gossipy phone conversa- tions are now ea- sier than ever to indulge in (or avoid) with op- tions such as call answer, call dis- play and call waiting. All we need to perfect communications
is some sort of video option. Now there's an eerie thought!
