Kyle Haight (CENTRE) puts some finish- ing touches on a wooden toy . Each year Mr. Moore's woodworking classes (BOT RT) combine their efforts and talents to create a variety of toys which will be do- nated to the Salvation Army. This Christ- mas, over 2 dozen toys ranging from doll houses to fire engines and airplanes with moving parts found their way into the arms of many children.
During United Appeal Week, over $800 was raised by several homerooms. 'Babe', a 10 foot long python owned by Darren Wilson (TOP RT) was one visitor to the school that raised over $120 for this cause. For the small fee of $3.00, stu- dents and staff could experience the thrill of holding this unique pet and having their photo taken with Babe entwined around their neck. Amy Robinson (TOP RT MID)
'.vas a little hesitant at first, but soon found the snake to be very soft and gentle. Mr. Kilgour's homeroom made an agreement with Miss Phillips that involved dying her hair if they raised $400 for United Appeal . Unfortunately, they fell short of their goal, but our lady VP decided to reward their efforts by allowing her hair to be sprayed green and red during the Christmas sea- son. Sporting an elf-like outfit, she chose Vern Lewis (MID CENT) and Chris Pat- tison to do the honours in front of a lunch hour crowd.
In return for all of their endeavors, the school receives much recognition from the community. Anne Hogarth, Nathan Richmire and Courtney Wilson are three examples whose volunteer work within the school and town as well as academic performance were honoured during a din- ner in late October by the Collingwood Optimists .
