When MR. RALPH DYKSTRA retires this June. following 28 successful years ofteaching, the halls in the Business reĀ· wing at Collingwood Collegiate will not seem the same.
Born in Netherlands, he came to Canada with his family at the m age of sixteen. His early career was working in a lumber mill. st; building log cabins and fishing huts in the Rocky Mountains, and r an doing construction at Base Borden. After narrowly escaping tragedy when he fell from a building, Mr.Dykstra decided to follow more C. academic pursuits, and in 1960 he enroled-in a degree program at B: Calvin College in Michigan. Graduating in 1964, he briefly taught m high school in Hamilton before starting an accounting career with A Hayes Dana. In 1968, he decided to give teaching another try and pr accepted a posiiton in C.C.I.'s Business Department. In
Mr.Dykstra is best known for teaching Accounting and H Economics, but he also taught French, Marketing, Retailing, ht Consumer Education, and Math. In his years at C.C.I.. he was always involved in student activities beyond the classroom, th including the Gleaner, school muscial productions, coaching, chess
club and most recently, the school store. w Mr.Dykstra's legacy at C.C.I. will be his commitment to the joy "
of learning that he shared with each of his many students over the K years. In September, he will become a student himself when he st enrols in a Science program at the University of Waterloo. Best of \ luck, Ralph! You will be missed by everyone at C.C.I. h
