With the combined leadership efforts of both World Class and Student Council, the Annual CCI FOOD DRIVE was the most successful food collection ever. Working together, the staff and students brought in over 10,000 lbs of canned and dry goods in order to supplement the shelves of the Salvation Army Food Bank in time for Thanksgiving. Throughout the week of collection, the com- petition between homerooms grew to a frenzy. One day, Mr. Redmond's group was in the lead, only to be over taken by Mr. Hamlin's team the next morning. Crates of apples arrived along with sacks of potatoes. Cash do- nations were even solicated in order to make food pur- chases to boost a homeroom tally. In the end, Mr. Hirst's
class was awarded first place. The farm wagon groaned under the mass of food as it made its way down Huron- tario street to the Salvation Army. A parade of walkers
followed the wagon, keeping in step to drums and cheered on by the entire population of Collingwood Collegiate. Thanks to the efforts of over 1500 students and staff, many local families enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. In addition, the World Class went into action after receiv- ing a request from the Salvation Army for a clothes drive. CCI reacted by a mass cleaning of closets and several large crates of slightly used clothing were trucked to the Thrift Shop. A pat on the back must be extended to every- one for helping the community.
