Facing The Big Man In The Red Suit!'
As soon as November is torn from the calendar, the excitement of Christmas begins and builds for the next three weeks. After many rehersal hours, the various bands and vocal groups presented their talents before a packed audience of friends and family for their an- nual concert. Homerooms began a competition with door decorating and, much to Mr. Jane's delight, the members of his class won top honours. Couples entered a winter wonderland and danced the night away to a well attended Semi-formal. Prefects, Student Council and anyone handy with a hammer prepared C.C.I.'s float for the Coiling- wood Santa Claus Parade. Instead of 'Let It Snow', a more appro- priate title would have been ' Let It Rain' . Even unpleasant weather could not dampen that famous 'Fighting Owl' spirit. A mitten tree ap- pearing in the main office was gladly accepted by 'My Friends House' . Canadian Tire money was once again collected to purchase toys for unfortunate children in the community. The teaching and secretary staff, under the direction of Mr. Jones and Mrs. Wypich, provided all of the trimmings for a Christmas feast and gifts for several families. On the last day of school, the teachers contributed the $250.00 fee in order to use the school for the community Christmas day dinner. As the countdown reached single digits, the colours to wear were red
and green . Santa tocques were sported, bells were tied to shoelaces and several individuals were seen with sprigs of mistletoe. Christmas spirit rose to a frenzy on the final Friday as the CCI population rushed to the gym to get seat for the grand finale- the Christmas Assembly. Much to everyone's delight, our own Mr. 'Elvis' French sang 'Blue Christmas'. Mr. Kilgour's class had everyone roaring with laughter at their dancing pickled frogs. One could not help, but notice that Santa had a slight Welsh accent. It was truly a Merry Christmas season!! (THIS PG, TOP LT) Santa Macallum and his two pretty elves.
