his frankness and the caring manner in which he approached learning of the most difficult con- cepts in all areas of science. Dick has led CCI's Science Department through the years of expan- sion in the '70s, the upheavals of the Ministry of Education in the '80s and the cutback in the '90s, always with a mindset to make the best change for the betterment of the students in our classroom. His democratic leadership style led the Science Department to take active roles in all area of education at CCI.
Dick's legacy has touched all areas of educa- tion at the local and county level. There are ap- proximately 7,000 former students who can chalk up part of who they are to their interaction with this excellent teacher, coach and mentor. Additionally, all of his colleagues in Simcoe County wish Dick a happy and healthy retire- ment where he will likely spend more time on his hobbies woodcrafting, hiking, gardening and travelling.
Over the years, Mrs. Russel has watched CCI grow from a small school with a staff of 35 to the community it is today, much larger, but just as involved. She has known many Collingwood families, having taught both parents and their children.
When asked to reflect on her time at CCI, Mrs. Russell said, "CCI has always been and innov- ative school with a strong extra-curricular pro- gram in place for students."
After retirement, Mrs. Russell hopes to spend time with her husband and sons in Collingwood and to travel, visiting her daughter in New Zea- land. We wish her good health and much happi- ness to come.
