2001/2002
Although the late snow arrival forced the first 2 meets to be cancelled, CCI's beginning skiers were still able to have impressive results in the Hardwood Classic. Ben Reasbeck came in first and Matt Buie came in 3'd in the boys while Clair Woodhouse won the race, followed by team-mates Becca Soward, Nicky Wright, Katy Harvey, Gemma Firman and Nina Lex. At GBs, 9 skiers qualified to go on to OFSSA with Erin Buie placing s•h in jrs and Kelsey Nickel and Claire Woodhouse came in 3"' in relay. In Sr. Boys, Ryan Kristy came in 10~'followed by Grant Kempster in 11"'· At OFSSA. all of the skiers had personal bests with Ryan placing in the top 3"' of sr. boys and in the Jr. girlh, Erin teamed up with Kelsey and Claire to place 6'h in the provincial relay. This propelled the team to 8"' overall. CCI competed in four GBSSA races this year, posting results in Level 1 Boys, Level 2 Boys and Level 2 Girls races. The Level 2 Girl's team were Georgian Bay Assocation Champions and posted two wins and a 2'" place finish over the season. They represented CCI at OFSAA 2002 and won a team gold medal in slalom and Joanna won an individual bronze medal. In the giant slalom event they won a team silver and Joanna placed a very respectable 6"' place overall. The Level 2 Boy's team had three top 3 finishes, and at the GB finals placed 3"' overall, just one place away from representing CCI at OFSAA. Trevor Firstbrook won two out of three races. Zack Hopkins was the overall winner at the GB tinals, and continued on to OFSAA and placed 4'h in the slalom event. Members of the Level 2 Boy's tean1 were Ryan Kristy. Evan Reid, Marc Manchee, Trevor Pirstbrook and Zack Hopkins. The Level I Boys bad an excellent season, placing first in two races and second at the GB finals, making them eligible to race at OFSAA this year. OFSAA proved to be a challenge with very stiff competition. but the boys came on strong to post two 41h place finishes in the giant slalom and the slalom
events. A silver medal was won in slalom by Scott Morrison, and a bronze in giant slalom by Byron Jardine. The OFSAA team members were Scoot Morrison. Byron Jardine. Ben Mitchell, Kyle Bailey and Ryan Han1mond. This year's coaches were Karen Ktisty and Luigi Niro, and were assisted by Kellie Casey-Shaw and Mike Kristy. Congratulations on an excellent 2002 season!
