The whirl of the shuttlecock as it crossed over the net to victory was the signature sound of the 2001 Badminton Team. 60 students vied for positions on the junior and senior teams. C.C.I also hosted the tournament that determined who was going to GBSSA. Representing C.C.I Juniors were Andrea Bevan, Adam Danylchuk, Alicia Hall, Joshua Hall, Mike Hoang, Sandie Lloyd, Jay Morrill, Charlotte 0' Rourke, Ryan Purdy, Brad Vanboxmeer and Stacey Vanboxrneer. Representing the Seniors were Matt Campbell, Jacob Carr, Rob Coolican, John Cudney, LeaAnn Deacon, Jonathon Denbok, Candace Hare, Simon Houston, Cheryl Kemsley, Mike Liotta, Josh Moore Joanne Peddle, and Kristen Sinclair. The ealy four-morning practises at 7:20am did not deter any of these fine athletes. The long bus breaking down on the long ride home from Bracebridge for the Seniors was also taken in stride.
On Febuary 26th 3 of CCI's finest wrestlers headed for the OFSSA Wrestling Tournament in Thunder Bay . This would be an exciting weekend for these 3 young CCI students. An unexpected visit from the Stanley Cup was a sign of great things to come for our team. Battling the freezing temperatures our team started it's battle to victory. The day started with Mac McSorley and Billy Burtch standing in the top 15 in each of their respective weight categories. Billy fought a hard battle but lost in his final match in overtime. Next up was Mac's match. Mac fought his best career match loosing only by one point. The last match would prove victory for the CCI wrestling squad. Shannon Huxtable fought aggressively and flawlessly, never allowing her opponents to make it through the first of two 3-rninute matches. Shannon's opponents tried without success, and Shannon came out the victor.
CCI would like to congratulate Shannon Huxtable for her victory. Shannon broke the 20-year-old record, bringing home an OFSSA Gold medal. Congratulations Shannon you are an inspiration to all of CCI.
