The season began well for the Junior Boys Golf Team with a first place finish at Eastview Wildcat Invitational tournament at the Bonair Golf Club in Coldwater. The team was lead by Scott Benedict, who placed second in a field of over 80 golfers. With the hope of a GBSSA championship, the team travelled to the Simoro Golf Club in Barrie the following week. Unfortunately high winds and a constant downpour got the better of the junior owls and the team settled for a sixth place finish. The team was lead by Captain Corey Ellis with an 81. Other members of the team included Peter Switzer, Shawn Purdy, Kurtis Boyce and Jeremy McEachern. The Senior Fighting Owls golf team finished in sixth place behind Barrie North at the GBSSA championships at the Bonair Golf Club of Coldwater. Ryan Purdy and Mark Garbutt tied for the top Owl golfer in individual play with rounds of 81. Other members of the team included Kurt Wilson, Kyle Burnie, Rob Fendley and Chris Karpowicz. For the first time, the CCI open girls gold were able to field an Open Girls team at the GBSSA championships held at the Innisbrook Golf Club of Barrie. The team of Kristy McLaughlin, Kaitlin Garbutt and Natalie Potts played well. Kristy finished in a tie for third place with a round of 73. This qualified her for the OFSAA championships the following week in Newmarket. Kaitlin finished seventh, one spot out of qualifying. At The OFSAA championships, Kristy battled high winds, wet conditions and a long course to finish in the top twenty in a field of over 40 golfers at the Cardinal Golf club of Ketteby.
Beautiful, warm, fall weather accompanied the CCI Senior Tennis Team to Barrie for the Regional Tennis Competition in October. By the end of the day, CCI dominated in the mixed doubled and boys s i n g l e s e v e n t s a n d p l a c e d 2 nd i n t h e b o y s d o u b l e s a n d 4 ' h i n t h e b o y s s i n g l e s . Erin Buie and Aladin Virmaux, 1" place in Mixed Doubles; David Kaufman and Mattew Buie, 2nd place in boys doubles; Rob Fendley 1stand Chris Haskell, 4th in boys singles. The GBSSA Sr. Tennis finals were played in less than ideal conditions in Collingwood. Rain, sleet and high winds were the order of the day. Despite the daunting weather, CCI won another GBSSA title in the mixed doubles event. Erin Buie and Aladin Virmaux, an exchange student from France dominated their competition and brought home the gold for CCI Congratulations to all team members for a great competitive season!
CCI's Junior Tennis team won the Junior GBSSA Championships for the 14'h straight year, but this time had to share the honours with cross town rivals Jean Vanier as the two schools ended the day tied with 10 points each. For CCI Holly Durnford and David Labelle carne second in mixed doubles with team-mates Caleb Denbok and Virginia Walker coming in third. In Girls Doubles Natalie Potts and Ellen Mitchell came in second. And in Boys Doubles Matt Buie and Travis Ainley came in third.
The Collingwood Collegiate Swim Team finished off their third year in existence with a splash at OFSAA. At the GBSSA finals, CCI swimmers showed that they were a force to be reckoned with. On thejunior side, Stuart Hammill placed 4th in his 50 freestyle and 2nd in the 100 meter breaststroke with Cassandra Ryan capturing a respectable 6'hin the open 100 meter butterfly. Laura Hardwick swam to a 3'd place finish in her 50 freestyle, narrowly missing out on the OFSAA time standard. Senior boy Brock Lintern captured a 2ndin his 200 freestyle, a4'h in his 50 butterfly and a3'd in the 100 freestyle event, earning a place at the OFSAA championships in Etobicoke. Captain Megan McAndrew led the CCI team with a 1''place finish in the 100 meter freestyle and a 2nd in the 100 breaststroke, qualifying for OFSAA in both events. At the OFSAA championships in Etobicoke, Megan and Brock swam to impressive finishes and destroyed their previous personal best times to qualify for consolation finals. Brock placed an impressive 13th overall in his Senior Boys 200 meter freestyle and Megan capped off her high school swimming career with a 9'h place finish in the 100 meter breaststroke. Coach Teskey would like to thank all the swimmers for their hard work and dedication. Other members of the swim team include Scott Denbok, April Aquilina, Sara Frost, Kathleen Belanger, Heidi Irion, and graduating seniors Corinne Hildebrandt, Rowan Denny, Laura Hardwick, Brock Lintern and Megan McAndrew. Can't wait to see what our CCI swimmers will accomplish in the pool next year!
