The Track and Field Team continued the trend of recent success with a string of outstanding performances throughout the season. Some thirty athletes began the year with sights set on personal bests and competitive results. In the end seven owls qualified for the OFSAA Championships in St. Catherines and a total of six new school records were set.
At this year's North Zone meet C.C.J. placed third overall as twenty-six out of twenty-eight Owls qualified for the GBSSA
Championships. At GB's, the Owls were seventh overall with the girls team finishing a mere nine points away from capturing the GB Team title. Still, Laura Alonzo (midget Long Jump), Alison Lainey Gunior Long Jump and Javelin), Jay Morrill Gu.ni.or 1500m and 3000m), Sasha
Helmkay Quni.or 200m and 400m), jen Vander Vecht (Senior lOOm Hurdles) and the junior Girls 4x100m relay all captured the GBSSA Championships.
Later at the OFSAA, Alison Lainey placed fifth in the province in the Junior Girls Javelin while Jay Morrill was sixth in the lSOOm race. The junior girls 4xl00m relay made up of Brooke Nickel, Alison Lainey, Jillian Grant and Sasha Helrnkay ran brilliantly to capture seventh place
By the end of the season Alison Lainey had set and reset the Junior Girls records for the lOOm, javelin and the Long Jump, willie Jay Morrill broke the C.C.!. marks for both the lSOOm and the 3000m. Sasha Helmkay took over as the fastest ever 400m runner amongst C.C.J. girls and the junior Girls relay lowered the schoo.l record by over a second.
ln all it was another great season and with only one graduating senior leaving, next season holds much promise.
