The CCI Girls Curling Team had a successful season advancing from the South Simcoe league to the G.B.S.S.A Championships where they finished sixth. The team worked hard this year and showed great improvements over the course of the season. Way to go!!! The CCI Boys Curling Team had their most successful season in recent history with a second place finish at the G.B.S.S.A. Championships. The team worked hard this year and showed commitment and dedication to the sport. Way to go boys!!!
There were many changes this year with CCI's Wrestling Team. "Weighing out" was Mac McSorley and two-time OFSAA gold champ Shannon Huxtable. As well, our coach Jay Grainger took a year off to spend with his new son Ethan.
"Weigh-ins" though, was new coach Matt Halliday a former CCI wrestler.
Billy (I chipped my tooth) Burtch was our new team captain. Jesse (watch me next year) Marsales was a 1st year wrestler, who along with Kyle (call me Cecil and hear me grunt) Scanniapiego are podium hopefuls for OFSAA 2005.
Cody and Clayton Kelly kept themselves physically active juggling hockey, wrestling and....school work. Clayton represented CCI along with Captain Burtch at OFSAA in Windsor. Hart ((man, I love band and wrestling) missed going to OFSAA by a mere 'pin'. Mike (I'm the strong silent type) Graham never missed a practice- 4 days a week from October to March was full of...team spirit, and gave every opponent a run for their money. Good Luck to Coach Matt....l'm huge...Halliday as he pursues a career with the Waterloo Regional Police Force.
This year, the Alpine Ski Team competed in 4 invitational meets and the GBSSA finals. The boys' Ievell and level 2 teams consistently placed in the top 4 schools at each event. Success at these events made them fierce competitors at the GBSSA finals held at the Georgian Peaks Ski Club. The Level 2 boys tearr lead by Adam Kennedy who placed 4th individually ended in 4th place overall. Andre Zingg, Robert McKay, Blake Drexler and Korey Heatherington rounded off the team. In the boys Levell race, Ben Mitchell placed 3rd overall, earning him a spot to the OFSAA Championship.Kyle Bailey in his last rao of his high school career placed 32nd after a challenging first n.m. The following level 1 boys were dubbed the "Terrain Park Boys" by the coaches because
they could always be found completing freestyle manoevers in the park between races. They are Ryan Baulke, Stuart Hammill, Anson McKerracher, Jim McMaster, and Campbell Pollock.
Only two girls raced this year for CCI and both Kaley Reid and Jamie Smith put in fine performances at every race. Ben Mitchell, CCI's only racer at OFSAA had a top 10 finish in the GS race and a 20th place in the slalom. Alpine coaches, Mrs. Kristy and Ms. Mitchell would like to extend their congratulations to all racers on their super performance at all races this season and we wish Kyle Bailey the best of luck in his future endeavours. The CCI Nordic Ski Team had an exceptional season on the trails.
First year skiers Kelly Sinclair and Jen Hughes had many successful races leading up to the GBSSA finals in which they both qualified for OFSAA. Kelly in ll'hplace overall and Jen in 161h In Senior Boys, Mike Rego in his first year on skis worked throughout the season to elevate himself to the top half of the field of skiers at GBSSA. Tim Hughes was exceptional as a first year Junior Boys racer coming in 2"d in the GBSSA finals and 23'dat OFSAA.The Senior Girls team of Erin Buie, Claire Woodhouse, Becca Soward, and Nina Lex were outstanding at the GBSSA's coming in 3'das a team and a week later they had an amazing relay race at OFSSA coming in 9'h in the province. As an individual racer Erin Buie was sensational having several winning races in local competitions before demolishing the field in the GBSSA race and winning the gold medal. Erin proved at OFSSA that she is one of the
best high school racers in the province coming in with a top ten finish.
