The Collingwood Collegiate Fighting Owl Cross Country Running team put together one of the most successful seasons in recent memory-- dominating the trails and slopes of Simcoe County. The "Black and Gold Sea", as they have become known , managed to capture all four league meets running their streak to 24 straight league meet victories. As a result, the spirited squad of 60 Owls laid claim to their 6th consecutive Simcoe County Championship meaning the "Golden Boot" once again resides in the halls of 'good ol' C.C.I.'.
Success did not end there as the owls once again hosted Gb's at Duntroon's Highlands Nordic but played lousy hosts as they ran posted points in every category and managed to produce the 'three-peat' as they were once again crowned the GBSSA Overall Team Champions. The C.C.I. squad boasted two team GB titles with the Junior Boys (Taylor Fox. James Crocker, Rob Alsop, Ben Mighton and Mitch Belford) and Senior Girls (Kali Green, Danielle Genoe, Kiri Langford, Carolyn Michon. Shannon Paulenko and Steph MacDuffie) bringing home first place honours.
In all, three complete teams qualified for the OFSAA Championships with the Junior Boys placing 22nd, the Senior Girls grabbing 23rd, and the Midget Girls (Nicole Weatherall, Meaghan Wessel, Kaylin Burmister, Tessa Fryer and Ashlyn Karosas) finishing 33rd respectively in all of Ontario.
Overall, It was a great season and coaches Hammond, Shepherd and Coukell coudn't have been more proud. Now it's on to next year with sights set firmly on keeping the "Golden Bott" in the "Wood"!
