Federation ofSecondary Athletic Associations (OFSAA) during the Monday night banquet with the Leadership in School Sport Award, said the emphasis this season has been on the team, rather than individual results.
"We really tried to foster a team atmosphere in what's actually an individual sport, and think of it as a team effort," she said.
That meant focusing on completing races in order to post a team result; for both the boys and girls team, said Kristy, it came
down to the team's fourth and fifth skier to determine a team result. "That's what happened on both

Meanwhile, the boys broke a lengthy drought atop the podium, as did the girls; the last CCI girls' team to win a Level II OFSAA alpine ski championship was in 2008, while the boys team last won gold - in Level I giant slalom- in 2009.
"We've had some great results all year," said Kristy. "It's been a very positive group."
It's also a fairly youthful group, especially the girls team, which is made up of students in Grades 9
1 0 - which could bode well for the school's alpine team for the next two or three years.

Those results paved the way for even more enthusiastic training for the twenty- six skiers (nearly our entire team) who qualified for the OFSAA Provincial Champions in Timmins a week later. Again, CCI Skiers raced their way to the podium! Heidi Ohrling and Alex Stukator both finished 2nd in their individual races, and in team placings we saw close to every CCI skier stand on the podium! The Junior and Senior Boys both finished 6th, the Junior Girls were 4th, and the Senior Girls finished 2nd. The senior teams together earned the 3rd place Senior Combined award.
