The year book explains th5t the ··society is maintained by the pupils for the purpose of improvin8 themselves in public speakin8. deb5lin8. readin8. wrilin8 of essays. 8eneral literature. vocal and instrumental music". with meelin8s every two weeks.
By 1925. the Literary oociety h5d encomp5ssed the 1\Lhletic Or85nizalion under a lille 'The Colle8iate 6ociely' The Literary oociety was flrsl or8anized in Lhe 1857 Gramm5r & hool. the precursor to CCI. It h5d become lhe most im- porlanl or8anization in the school by Lhis Lime. bein8 the sole source of funds for other school activities. It was durin8 this era that the Literary oociely look on lhe t5sk for which il w5s responsible for many years. The Commencement. This an- nual evenl became the Brand event of the year for CCI. and it was here that the school showcased all ils lalenls. The Com- mencement exercises of1929 featured " various numbers lhal were well prepared and the students well-trained by the teachers. The pro8ramme consisted of5oy's 1\Lhletics under lhe direction of Mr. Qeynolds. dances. Miss Kennedy and Miss Cl5rk, p5nlomine -- Miss Wales. Orchestra -- Mrs. Ellis: play -- Miss Ness and Mrs. Dr. Mitchell. and the Glee Club by Mr. 1\lkinson. our principal". In December of 1930.
