The Commencement
"The Commencement Exercises will be held in the Grand Opera House on"-what does the date matter? That announce- ment, gracing the billboards or the front page of the town pa- pers, has thrilled many hearts, for many years and in many different ways.
To a stranger in town it is a possibility of a night's enter- tainment. To the citizens of the town it is an opportunity to see what kind of an education is given in the Collegiate. To the parents it is a source of pride, in that their children are students and so, performers. To the graduates it is a reminder of other days, that bring a tear and a sigh for lost youth. To the students it is a time of stress but of just pride in their efforts. B'ut, to the graduating class, it is the night of nights, a commencement, indeed, but more than that.
It is the culmination of their desires, in so far as this school is concerned. It is.a goal achieved, a milestone passed, that gives them momentum to surmount the next obstacle. They feel justly proud of their Alma Mater, of their efforts and of their success, but there is another sentiment that cannot be crushed in their hearts-the feeling that this night, as well as a Com-
