THE GLEANER
A W elcome to Freshmen
On Friday evening, February the twelfth, the second form students formally welcomed the Freshmen to the Collegiate. Usually this is done m'uch earlier in the year but, with the pro- spect of better accommodation after Christmas, the Freshmen, on their arrival last September, were told to consider themselves initiated until the next term. So finally, the long promised party materialized and expectation was not better than realization. To add to the enjoyment of the occasbn a meeting of the Col-
legiate Society, under the direction of Second Form, was held that evening. The programme prepared by them consisted of musical numbers, folk dances, and humorous recitations and sketches, all of which were well rendered. The 2A Chronicle, read by a Second Former, brought forth well merited applause.
Miss McDermid voiced the welcome to the Freshmen and told them something of what is expected of them in their school- life at the C. C. I. She gave an example of the attitude of all ex- students of this school, in declaring that the fact that she was a graduate of the Collingwood Collegiate was to her a source of real pride. The critic's report was given by Miss Clark, but her criticism was mainly commendation.
The Second Form girls provided lunch and directly after- wards students and staff joined in the first dance held in the new building. The remainder of the evening passed merrily anll at the conclusion the members of First Form felt themselves to be, once and for all, veritable students of the Collegiate.
