BASKETBALL
For the fir:st time in the long his- tory of the C.C.I. sports, basketba1l teams represented the school in an organized league. Little was expect- ed for the first. year and when the teams swept aside a1l opposition in the district, everyone was surprised. Both teams went to the tournament in Toronto, the seniors were elimin- ated in the semi-finals but the jun-
iors advanced to the finals only to be defeated by Stamford in one of the m:ost exciting games of the season. A summary of the games played fol- l o w .s :
SENIOR GAMES
C.C.I. vs. Barrie (1st game) After several weeks of steady rractice, the C. C. I. boys took the floor on Friday, Jan. 16 against t't1e strong Barrie team. Barrie, sporti.ng- Guilfoyle, the old C.C.I. star, drew first blood but the C.C.I. came back strong and held the southern rivals 10-10 at half time. They broke away after the intermission and the final f'core ended 22-14 for the C.C.I. F.
Rice played well on the defensive end while Conn and Allen turned in good games on the forward line.
C. C. I. vs. Barrie (2nd. game)
A week after the first game, the team wP.nt to Barrie for the return .D"ame. Here they again repeated their previous performance scoring 28 points to Barrie's 15. Bernhardt showed the way to the rest of th8 team along the scoring line, scorin~ six baskets.
C. C. I. vs. Midland
Having won the round with Bar- rie, the C.C.I. boys were entitled to rnP.et Midland for the Geor~<ian Bay District Champiom;hip. The two teams pla.ved a sudden death p:ame nn Barrie's neutral floor. The Mid- land team auickly amassed a 6-point lead in the first few minutes of play.
The C. C. I. rallied and the score .stood 14-6 for them at half time. During the second half the score in- creased to 28 and Midland were held to a lone basket. The winning of this game entitled Collingwood to meet the winners in the other groups of the COSSA for the championship.
C. C. I. vs. Peterboro
At the Northern Vocational Sccool Toronto, on March 6th, the Seniors swung into action against Peterbor0 in the semi-final round of the COSSA series. The boys lacked their usual smooth style and all the boys seemed a bit confused on the strange floor. McKay put in his best game of the season. Peterborough won 34-17 but were defeated in the finals, the next day by Stamford.
"The Orphans"
The Orphans are an aggregation of castaways from the COSSA teams and anyone who can muster up cour- age to confess less than a 50 per cent. a.verage grade.
Orphans vs. All Stars
The first game with the Town All Stars was held in the gymnasium on Friday Jan. 16. Both teams were very evenly matched and the final score was 15-15. For the Orphans Livingstone and Sproule were good a.nd the Town boy.s starred Allen and Draper. The game was handled by
L. J. Stapleton.
Orphans vs. All Stars
On Frid1.w, Feb. 27th. the Orohans again clashed with the All Stars. Foster for the town was almost in- vincible and the All-Stars were at no time in dansser. For the school, Livingstone and Rice pla.ved well. The score ended 20-13 with the Or- phans climbing fast. They did not start soon •enough. Shipley mana.ged
