began the long walk to Mrs. Newson's home in the small city's restriited residential area.
After trudging nearly an hour through the slush, Bobby very tired ' by this time, reached Mr& ; Newson's home,
lifted the knocker and waited. My how pretty that knocker was ! It was a lion's head of gl eaming brass. He would like, sometime, to buy his mother one just like it. Bobby loved animals.
A maid an swered the door.
,'Ma'am, could ~ speak to Mr~ Newson, please?11 "Certainly. Come in, please. "
Bobby stepped inside. As the door was softly closed behind him, he wasover~helmed by the beauty of the home. Beautiful iol paintings hung on the walls, rich wine drap- eries set off the beautiful oak furniture. Bobby's eyes~ however, dwelt on a lovely bouquet of white carnations and delicate red roses.
A lovely lady walked into the room.
"How do you do, young man. I don 't believe that I
know you but I underst8nd you wished to s ee me. "
"Yes ma ' am. Mother said to t ell you she wouldn't be
here this morning. She isn't very well." Even as he spoke , his eyes travelled to the flowers.
III'm so very sorry. I see 'you like .my flowers."
