This year, under the guidance of Miss Varty and Mr. Winter, the Drama Club produced two plays-- "Two Crooks and a Lady" (directed by Miss Varty), and "Twelfth Night" (directed by Mr. Winter.) The first of these plays was in the nature of a "whodunit" mystery, and featured such players as Elizabeth Scrannage, Paul Gibson, Jean Sawdon, Carol Stewart, Arthur Robinson, and Reid Stewart.
The second play, selections from Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," had such prominent members in the cast as Robert Miller as Malvolio, Margaret Newby as Maria, Deena Kay Irwin as Olivia, Ernest Ibbotson as Sir Toby Belch, David Lunan as Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Robert Newby as Feste, Keith Rocque as Fabian, and Ray Brinn as the Prologue. Cynthia Hacking and Diane Hall were in charge of make-up and costumes.
This section of "Twelfth Night" was also selected as Collingwood's entry in the Georgian Bay Drama Festival held in Orillia this year. Miss Esme Crampton, the Adjudicator, praised the play for its good pacing and excellent arrangements, giving Robert Newby the best supporting actor award.
The plays were presented to the Collingwood public in the School Auditorium on the evenings of February 19th and 20th and were well received by appreciative audiences in spite of some hectic "behind- the scenes" difficulties of which the less said the better.
The Drama Club considers itself very fortunate to have such energetic and versatile directors as Miss Varty and Mr. Winter.
