Public speaking continues to maintain its place as a popular phase of school activity. This year saw twenty competitors taking part in the Junior Competition, and sixteen in the Senior. From these, Ina Baird and Jennifer McCarl emerged as finalists in the Junior division, and Linda Currie and Wayne Clute as finalists in the Senior division.
In the School Final held on Thursday afternoon, February 27th, Ina Baird was chosen as Junior Champion and Linda Currie as Senior Champion. These capable speakers were awarded the Student Council Public Speaking bar by Student Council President. Donald Blacklock. All contestants in both

divisions will later receive Student Council Bars for Public Speaking.
Just to prove that the boys are still in the running in the matter of talking, Keith Mathieson won first place in the boys' division of the annual Competition of the local Lions Club held on Monday evening, March 2. Winner of the girls' division was Linda Currie. These two speakers were presented with individual trophies by the Lions' Chairman of Public Speaking for 1964, Mr. M. C. Gattie. Keith and Linda will compete in the District semi-finals to be held in Orillia. The Gleaner wishes them every success in their efforts.
