Drama Club
Collingwood Collegiate Institute stole the show at the Georgian Bay Drama Festival.
With the co-opertaion of Mr. Hastings, a troupe that included Nelson Jones, Mary Pace, Nancy Mason, Robert G. Hawkins, and John Pace, decided late in September to present a Shakespearean selection to the Festival in Nov- ember. The choice was one of the sub-plots
from Hamlet, which is spread over several acts in the original.
The actors edited and re-arranged Shake- speare's scenes to fit their own resources, and by massive cutting they trimmed the sequence to a lean 20 minutes. Using props resurrected from previous years, they went on to produce, direct and perform the act entirely on their own.

Theyhadproblems. Shakespeareandialogue is even more difficult to act than to understand. Time for rehearsal was scarce; only on one occasion was the entire cast together ยท for a practice session--and that was the night before the performance.
When the play was finally presented at Barrie North Collegiate, the audience and the Festival judge, Mr. Ian Fellows of Carleton University, Ottawa, were more than impressed. Mr. Fellows expressed his pleasure at the remarkable quality of the Collingwood effort, and awarded Robert Hawkins the prize for be.st actor. He singled out the members of the cast for their performances and had added praise for their costumes as well.
The Drama Club has done an excellent job and deserves high commendation.
