     ANDY SANFILIPPO: STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT
Several times during this past year I've asked myself why anyone would possibly want to be Student Council President! Would it be the honour of being able to miss a few periods in order to discuss, with the school administration, whether an
assembly should be held on Wednesday or Thursday?
Would it be to gain the privilege of having to offend some people that you've known and respected for several years, in order to achieve something that you feel would be beneficial
to the Student Council and the student body?
Would it be the right to stay at a dance until two o'clock
in the morning, in order to pay the band (who inevitably insist that you've shorted them) and supervise the clean-up, or would you want to gain the position of Student Council President so that you may have the title "President" placed before your first name each time you are addressed over the P.A., making you look almost as intelligent as Uncle Bobby, Captain Kangaroo or Bucketmouth Bill.
When I ran for Vice President in 1973 and President in 1974, I said that my reason for seeking these offices was that I felt that I could do a better job for the Student Body than my opponent! The confidence that you displayed in me, by voting for me, motivated me to do my upmost during my term of office.
Although discouraged, frustrated and disillusioned at times, I never regretted gaining the office that I ran for.
However, Abraham Lincoln knows my real reason for wanting to be Student Council President, for as he once said,
"The realities of life cannot
be taught in a classroom, but only learnt through experience."

JANE MCGILLIVRAY: VICE PRESIDENT
To say the least, I have found my position on the Student Council to be quite an experience. My official job as Vice President is an intricate part of the functioning of the Council - I have to make sure everyone at our meetings has a copy of the agenda - I find the responsibility overwhelming.
The Student Council acts primarily as a liaison between the student body and the administration and as such has given me some insight into the workings of our school. I predict that the educational system will soon be forced into a period of deep metamaphosis. High school should be a place one enters with the enthusiasm of a new adventure and leaves with the enthusiasm of an individual aware of the things he doesn't know. Instead I find school to be a place of programming, moulding and absolutes where a person is largely stripped of his unique self. I think this year's council has made a small step in the direction of making our school a more human place to be.
