IAN MACLEAN : MINISTER OF FINANCE
PAUL RICHARDS : PUBLICITY CONVENOR
Being Publicity Convenor at CCI involved quite an amount of work. Some of the work of the "Minister of Publicity" would stray away from the normal pattern of publicizing dances, concerts, films, our formal, and so on, and would lead to many other interesting tasks.
For example, besides publicizing the dance itself, there was a glamourous side. "President Andy" and myself would get our exerci.se by loading chairs on and off of the pull cart, in order to "neatly" prepare the smoking area for the deva- stating evening that lay ahead of it. After the dance, we "eagerly" swept up the floors (two or three times) and "even more eagerly" return the chairs "gently" to their proper place in the small cafeteria. After this had been completed, we would retire to the Student Council Office where "President Andy" would go through a series of pantomimes on "How to Be an English teacher in six easy steps".
Other activities the Student Council would endeavour were to, as Mr. Willis would say "Kick the Jeepers out of the Coke Machine" when one member would lose a quarter. One for all and all for one!
Remember that beautiful hunk of Christmas Tree that was glued together at the Christmas Assembly, it was once a glamourous work of nature until it went "as it were" for a loop on Highway #26 while "President Andy" and myself were bringing it back to the school. Someone forgot to tie it onto the trunk. We missed five periods that day trying to put it back together!
Other highlights of my school year were smuggling food from the cafeteria to the Student Council office, going to my locker between periods, walking in the don't walk areas of the hall, pushing in chairs in the cafeteria, and being a part in turning the Student Council Room upside down!
My five years at CCI are over, and, besides having a pretty good time, I think I learned something too. This was a good Student Council!
I did not enter my office of Finance Minister excitedly, but instead volunteering to fill the position. I found that working on the council and being in the position to see the reality of the warped school system revealed somewhat inter- esting.
My achievements for the year were to centralize and draw under student council control, the monies which seemed to float by and be consumed by the different departments. If this can be managed, hopefully the council can conduct more student activities for the remainder of this year and successive years. Operating the dances is not an appealing task, but thanks to the students of notable audio-aesthetic values, we were able to make substantial profits on most dances.
I have found it a worth while experience working with the other council members and trying to get the council running effectively.
JOE PACE: SOCIAL DIRECTOR
I have found my year as Social Director as being a very challenging job. 1 would like to thank the Student Council for being cooperative, allowing my band to play at two dances this year (Home Ground).
