CROSS COUNTRY GOES TO OFSSA
On Tuesday February 22, 1983, the CCI Nordic Ski Team travelled to Midland to compete in this year's GBSSA race. Despite a lack of snow this winter, the course was very fast and in reasonable shape. Competition was stiff at all levels, but a top notch effort by our skiers produced some excellent results. In Junior girls competition no team entry was possible due to an injury to Denise Minardi. On an individual basis however, our Junior girls finished as follows: Pam Arp 4th, Keely Griffiths 5th, and Sue Palmer 6th. In the Senior girls event CCI did not field a team, but we had some excellent individual efforts. Kendra Titus was 2nd, Outi Pietila (our exchange student from Finland) was 9th, and Wilma Lindhorst finished 13th.
In the boys events C.C.I. was able to enter two very well prepared teams. One of our strong skiers, Jamie Simpson, was injured, but the other junior skiers picked up the slack. GBSSA Championships were earned by both the junior and senior boys in what can only be described as a first rate performance. Team members and their final results are as follows: Junior Boys GBSSA Champs: Vaughn Lantz 1st, Jeff Davis 2nd, Shawn Darlington lOth, Greg Nell 12th, Joel Westerhof 15th. Senior Boys GBSSA Champs: Shawn Sinclair 2nd, Bill Ironside 4th, Dan LeGoaix 5th, Gary Lane 7th.
C.C.I. Coaches Mr Sinclair, Mr. Sproule, and Mr. Aikens extend their congratulations to the team on a job well done.
