FIVE C.C.I. WRESTLERS GO TO OFSSA COMPETITION
Collingwood qualified five wrestlers to compete at the OFSSA championships in Milton Ontario. Each of the five won victories in what has been called the toughest tournament in Canada.
Our two graduating seniors Ron Conklin and team captain, Dave Dynes, both won important matches and team points but placed out of the medals in the 36 main weight classes.
C.C.I.'s top placing of the OFSSA tournament came from Derek Prezio who defeated all but one of his challengers to bring home a silver medal. Steve Sammons picked up a bronze medal and demon- strated some superb wrestling skills in the process. Andy Lane had a series of rugged matches that led to a sixth place finish .
As a team, C.C.I., made it to the top 10 team finishers in Ontario. In fact, we placed 8th out of the 137 teams that qualified members and only four points out of fourth place. This success also aided a 4th place finish for the GBSSA association.
C.C.I. STUDENT ATTENDS CANADA GAMES
Steve Sammons represented his province well in the Canada Winter Games held in Quebec this year. In the week long competition period Ontario competed in a series of dual meets against all the other provinces and territories and successfully defended its title as the number one wrestling power in Canada. In fact, it was those last points that brought Ontario the all around games championship. Steve, slightly underaged for this event, still placed fourth in Canada.
The Pins, the memories, the exchange of cultures and the thrill of that competition will linger in his mind for some time to come.
