CCI ARE GBSSA CHAMPIONS AGAIN!!
The Cross Country Ski Team capped a long and at times try~
ing season by qualifying allteam members for OFSAA com- petition February 22 and 23 in Haliburton.
The teani began dryland training in November and by mid December team members bad their fill of roller skiing, pave- ment burns and bruises. They were ready to ski. The snow finally came just in time to get one race in before the Christmas break and many team members showed potential beyond the coaches' greatest expectations.
The team showed improvement through January and February training and racing when there was snow and suffer- ing the weekly thaws. The junior girls won the team title at the ESPSS (Penetang) Invitational.
The GBSSA meet, Feb 16th showed the hard work had paid off as Elaine Lindhorst and Scott Morgan became GBSSA champions.
Veronique LeGoaix, Susan Clugston, Genny Currie and Jennifer Thompson joined Elaine as junior girl team champions .
Warren Westerhof, Brent Nell, Glen Foy and Chris Thompson joined Scott to place second in GB.
CCI were the junior combined team champions.
Margot Minardi placed 5th at GBSSA also qualifying her for OFSAA.
Early in the autumn, the C.C.I. Cross-Country Ski Team began to train for their season. Long before the first snow fell on the ground, the various members were involved in dryland training preparing themselves for the endurance and strength required in their sport. Even though all of their hard work paid off, the team still took time out to indulge in some fun as seen here (top rt.) at the Hardwood Hills GBSSA meet.
Although a novice racer, Elaine Lindhorst prov- ed to be an excellent skier (TOP LT.), even from the beginning of the race (TOP RT .). Scott Morgan (BOT. LT.) strains to get ahead during the race while Veronique LeGoaix gives a strong push at the start (BOT. RT.).
