Midget Boys Basketball.
With only one week to go in the regular season, the Midget "Fighting
Owls'' stood with a record of 6 wins and 2 losses which included impressive victories over the strong teams from Barrie North and Barrie. Central. With expectations of competing for a G.B.S.S.A. championship, the team ran into a string of injuries and retirements resulting in a final record of 6 wins and 5 loses, good enough for fourth place, but out of the playoffs.
The Junior Boys Basketball team enjoyed a very fine season with an ex- cellent 8 wins and 2 losses record in league play. This was good enough for se- cond place in the southern division. I.n.scoring. the team was led by Reg Shef- field, Bob Robinson, Tim Bulmer and Robert Duda. Other players who all contributed significantly to the team were Chris Sproule, Steve Sproule, Dan Walker, Mike Parness, Gary Weatherall, Jeff McWilliams and Jeff Scott. The fine coaches of this fine team were Coach Crago and Coach Wilkinson.
The Senior Boys Basketball Team enjoyed a very successful season. The 'Fighting Owl' Seniors had an overall record of 23-8. had a perfect ll-0 league record, had two tournament championships under their belt, and, at the time of printing, had qualified for the GBSSA championships. The Senior Owls captured the Barrie Innisdale Invitational with a one point victory over Peterborough Collegiate in the final game. However, the highlight of the season occurred at home in Collingwood. The Owls captured the Collingwood McDonald's Senior Invitational with an exciting victory over over a powerful squad from London Catholic Central. The Owls were led by their big men who controlled the boards. both offensively and defensively throughout the season. The front line was led by County All-Star MVP and Collingwood McDonald's Chris Fischer. Adding power and scoring were Collingwood McDonald's All-Star Mike Aikens, Tony Baptiste and most improved '88 player and County All-Star Reg Sheffield.
The backcourttandems stole no glory, but did most of the work. Swing men included Captain Chris Beckett, our strongmen Kirk Kadwell and Robin Timpson. Point guards were Todd Guzzwell who ran the offence and con- trolled the tempo and Dave Scoville who shined on defence and made few mistakes on offence. Coach Hirst congratulates the team on a very successful year!
