              BOYS VOLLEYBALL
•••
Junior Boys' Volleyball Team Summary
The Fighting Owl Junior Boys' Volleyball Team embarked on a
defence of its GBSSA championship last year by running up a season record of 12 wins and 3 losses in league play. From a quiet beginning the players developed into a cohesive unit that became a force in the league. The team brought home the consolation cham- pionship from the Midland Tournament, and ran up an impressive string of victories at the Eastview Tournament. Returning to league play , the team was frustrated in its quest to defeat Barrie North in both season matches, but played aggressively to win over all other opposition. Victories over Bradford, Innisdale and Banting stand out as memorable matches, with veterans Tony Madden, Jim Leithead, Chris Fisher, and Jean-Paul Rhodes leading the way for our rookies.
The team finished second in our league and went on to the Zone Championships with high hopes. The four veterans teamed with excellent play by Andrew Sneyd, Robert Duda, and Dan Walker to put the pressure on North, but fell short in the deciding match 14-16, 15-19 and 10-15. While this ended our season, coaches Doran and Redmond appreciate how the players developed as the season progressed. We appear to have the nucleus to build a con- tender around for next year, and look forward to seeing Eric Porn- mer, James Carson, Mike McAteer, and Shawn Brock move into decisive roles on the court. Our thanks go out to Mr. Rhodes, Mr. Chandler, and the minor officials who helped make our season per- formance possible.
MIDGET BOYS VOLLEYBALL 1987-88
Twenty guys tried out to play.
But only fifteen were needed by first game day. Whom should we cut - we contemplate?
Should we delete or leave it to fate?
"Oh yeah! I've made it", the fifteen beam, "I am a member of the volleyball team! Didn't think 1 would, but here I am,
It's a fulfilment of a long term plan."
The season began on a winning note, Players were drilled - it was like rote. Spiking and serves were still off-base, Instructions given - accepted with grace.
We won and lost- a part of the game.
Mistakes critical, sometimes a pain,
But by using the drills to improve our skills,
We climbed and conquered the competitive hills!
Thahks to all of the team members
Coaches Sproule and Jones would like to thank all of the team members. The Midget Team won SO% of its games and qualified for the playoff against Banting, Innisdale, and North. IT was an enjoyable season!
