A grade 12 student spends every day in a grade 9 Geography class. A fifth year student assists Tuesday to Friday in a grade 9 Science class. What's happening? Peer Helping! A new, one credit course, 'Peer Help- ing' is putting students in their 4th. or 5th.year into a grade 9 or 10 class to assist their younger, fellow stu- dents. For three and a half weeks at the beginning of the semester, and every Monday the students are in their own class. They have helped in Art, Living Skills, Math, English, Music, Geography, Science, History, the Library, and Guidance. A peer assistant's day is always a chal-
l e n g e . In m e e t i n g t h e c h a l l e n g e , t h e students meet their own younger selves (and sometimes their own cur- rent problems), the frustrations, the temptation to quit and the feeling of apathy. With their unique under-
standing of their grade 9 or 10 peers, they have turned many problems into successes. Some have gone from a pass to honours and some have had personal successes that will never be recorded in a mark book!
