The 1991 Senior Tennis Team had its most successful season ever. The team went on to the zone tournament with a full team of sixteen players and came away with the team championship. A week later, the seven players that qualified all had re- markable performances, with C.C.I. entries placing in the top three in their events to earn team points.
The team was led by the boys doubles dy- namic duo of Cory Stephenson and Derek Seymour, as they won four matches with- out a loss to win an individual G.B.S.S.A. championship in boys doubles. Christiane Gentoan showed no mercy during play, only lOSing to the tournament champion to earn second place. In mixed doubles, incredible play shown by Shelby Worts and Tina Hawton earned them a third place. Not to be outdone, the pairing of James Saunders and Sonja Weiland beat their nemesis from the regional tournament before losing out to the champions to place a third place finish. The Tennis Team also won the Blue Mountain Monterra T ourna- ment later in October to round out their suc- cessful year.
The Junior Tennis 1990 Team won the G.B .S.S.A. championship for the second year in a row. Tracey Sneyd and Jen Weis won the girls doubles championship with a victory over Brandy Boyce and Carol Pat- ten who came second. Karen Skeaff was
second in girls singles, and Jason Lang was second in boys singles. In mixed dou- bles Cory Stephenson and Jody Blakeman also won second place, and in boys dou- bles Ben Smith and Jason Edwards also fought their way through to second place. The team is hoping to make it three years in a row in 1992. Members of the Tennis Team (BOT. CEN.) were BK.: Cory Ste- phenson, Jen Weis, Jake Reardon, Tim Lampton. Of the sixty enthusiastic girls who tried out for the cheerleading squad this year, six- teen were chosen. Cheerleading isn't something magical that happens only when you're in uniform. It's a great deal of hard work. Through team effort and many long hours of practice the squad demonstrated precision, poise, enthusiasm and great spirit throughout the football and basket- ball season. The cheerleaders (BOT. RT.) were: BK: Stephanie David, Jessica Wil- son, Jessica Turcotte (Capt.) . 3RD: Devon Wall, Tina McGirr (Co-Capt.), Coach Wal- lace, Jen Forgie, Jamie Vaughn, Jody McQueen, Coach Weston. 2ND: B.J. Moore, Tara Colley, Colleen Baldry, Tra- cey Downs, Beth Wamsley, Cathy Elder, Sherry O'Coin. FR.: Sacha T albot.
