Basketball, say many authorities, is one of the most difficult team sports to master. No other sport requires so many skills - quick- ness, patience, endurance, finesse, strength, coordination - to men- tion but a few.
The 1991-92 edition of Senior Girls' Basketball worked hard to develop these and other skills involved in this great game. But success in basketball goes beyond just playing the game. Suc- cess is measured in many ways - by the dedication that you bring to your tasks; by the feeling of satisfaction that comes from know- ing you have given the game all that you can; by the warmth that is experienced when good friends become even closer.
A winning season is not measured by the win and loss columns - if it were, the whole enterprise would be a waste of time.
To the Seniors leaving C.C.I. next year - you will be missed and will be in the thoughts of your teammates and your coach - Jean- nine Crago, Gen Currie, Sherry Death, Tara Deffet, Jody Rabbitts. Good luck to all of you!
To the players returning next year - Jill Besse, Bessie Marcou, Krista Meesters, Shana Nichols, Kate Ralph, Karen Skeaff, Shan- non Stoutenburg and the manager Brad Rawn - you have a great tradition to pass on and you will certainly provide the leadership needed for the 1992-93 edition.
The Junior Girls had another successful season. We had a league play record of six wins and three losses. The three losses were all by only two pOints and we managed to defeat all teams in the league at least once. A heart breaking loss to Barrie North knocked us out of the playoffs. The season highlight was capturing the C.C.I. Junior Girls championship for the third time. Victory in the tour- nament came at the hands of our arch rivals Barrie Innisdale and was it ever "SWEET". The season ended on a fun note as the team travelled to Huntsville for an overnight tournament. All in all, it was a great season. Can't wait till September!
This year the Midget Team started out with high hopes. Our aim was to reach the G.B.S.S.A. championships and play in front of a home crowd. We felt that we might have a better chance if we didn't have to get up early to travel to the finals. Unfortunately, our hopes were crushed in a playoff game against Barrie North and we failed to reach G.B.'s.
Throughout the year, we had some strong games and seemed to play our best against the top teams in the league. We could pass, rebound, and even learned to defend, but we needed the soft touch around the basket to score. After out-manoevering our opponents and executing great plays, we watched the ball spin around the hoop and bounce out. We finished the league in fourth spot, but the future bodes well for next year. Good luck to all the players from coaches Wilkinson and Stoutenburg.
