The C.C.1. Midget Boys' Volleyball Team successfully defended their title as Simcoe County ' and Georgian Bay champions this season. After winning the championship, the boys took on three other competitors in the G.B. tournament.
The boys' season was a great success resulting in a seven win and one loss record. There was even a victory against Innisdale with eight of the team members (geographers?) off on a field study in Toronto.
AttheG.B's,theboyslosttheirfirstmatchofthedaytoO.D.C.V.1.Thiswasarealcrowdpleaser as C.C.1. was the team to beat starting the day. Next the team came up against Almaguin High- lands and got back on track.
This set the stage for a great semi-final against Barrie Innisdale . C.C.1. controlled the match with a 15-5, II-IS, 15-10 triumph.
The final match was against O.D.C.V.I.. The whole team elevated their play to championship levels, and defeated them 15-8, 15-9.
On Nov. 6, the C.C.1. Junior Boys Volleyball Team travelled to Barrie to compete in the Simcoe County Zone Playoffs.
In round robin matches of the best 2 out of 3, C.C.1. first met Barrie Eastview. C.C.1. began with a strong lead but unfortunately lost the first game 12-15. C.C.1. came back to win the 2nd game 15-11. Eastview did not let up and came back to win the 3rd game 15-10, winning the match.
C.C.1. went on to meet Barrie Central, but lost the first two games and was eliminated from the Semi Finals.
Although C.C.1. came up short in the finals, they had an excellent season with 8 wins and 2 losses placing 2nd in the league. Coaches Mr. Jones and Mr. Sproule congratulate team members for an excellent season.
The Senior Fighting Owls Boys' Volleyball Team began the season with high hopes that this might be THE YEAR! Long practices and fitness "just for the fun of it" made the season exciting before league competition began. Early matches against Innisdale, Banting and North showed that a lot of work had to be done. The loss of Chris Pegelo with, - count 'em, - two broken wrists in one play added to our early woes. However, wins against Bradford and St. Joe's helped improve the win-loss record as we began to meet teams the second time around.
The second half of the season saw some exciting action with a solid win over Innisdale. Things went better the second time around with North playing at Collingwood, but the win was not to be. It all came down to needing the win over Banting to take the third playoff pOSition, but our team just COUldn't put Alliston away. The regular season ended with a 5 and 5 record in league play. In our pre-playoff " tune-up" at the Eastview Tournament on Nov. 2, the team had some serious fun winning games over North (finally) and Central before being knocked out of the playoff round by the (quick) Mammoths from Mayfield.
So while the season did not bring all of the great things we set out to accomplish, each player had an opportunity to participate in some hard-hitting, fast-paced volleyball action. More im- portantly, the individuals grouped in many games to playas a unit to the consternation of the opposition and the excitement of their coach and fans.
