A wareness
I use a communication book to talk or my talking computer.
These are some of my concerns:
people stare at me people don't open doors for me; people don't take the time to use my communication book; I can't get up- stairs with my chair need lots of room to drive my wheelchair in the classroom; I can't take my computer to all my classes
don't yell at me, I can hear you; I want more kids to talk with me at school; please be patient with me!! the doors only open one way so I can't always open them with my wheelchair
To overcome these concerns:
we now have an elevator so I can go to my classes on the second floor; the halls are wide so I can drive my wheelchair down the hall without bumping into the kids and teachers; I go on the wheelchair bus to and from school; I go to regular classes with the kids
What I learned: The disabled people are people too; people should be nice to dis- abled people; I am working on the Na- tional Access A wareness W eek Committee; I like to work on the com- mittee."
The previous message was an announce- ment made by Casey using his audio com- puter. ABOVE: Casey experienced many barriers when attempting to tour Maple Leaf Gardens with his geography class. He finds it so much easier to visit the Sky- dome.
