BOYS AND GIRLS WRESTLING TEAM
It could be described as one of the best years ever for the Wrestling Team. Eight females and seventeen males competed in an average of 30 matches each, in tour- naments throughout the province and Un- ited States with a 73% success rate. Highlights of the year include hosting the CCI Invitational Tournament for 19 visit- ing schools throughout Ontario and the GBSSA Championships where our girls placed first overall; qualifying 4 males and 4 females to the OFSAA Champion- ships where the boys placed 5th in On- tario among 284 teams. Heath Beatson placed 2nd, Ham Beatson placed 3rd, Brian Burtch placed 4th while Kevin Fen- wick placed 12th in their 36 main classes . Jen Bell placed 6th in the women's OF- SAA. While all that success was taking place, our school did all of the tourna- ment planning for the championship. To finish the season, our team competed in the March Break at the Mohawk Valley International Tournament in New York where we placed first as a team in the Women's division and eighth in the Men's division. Jessica Beatson and Ham Beat- son placed 1st while Cassandra Lequyere and Jen Bell placed 2nd. Michelle Ainger
placed 3rd, Veronica Downie and Shawn Payne placed 4th and Brian Burtch placed 5th. After 5 months of honing wrestling skills and conditioning with the support of coaches Jay Grainger and Mr. R. Sneyd, the team then spent an addi- tional month to coach over 100 elemen- tary school students in the local area as well as host the Simcoe West tournament and the Simcoe County Elementary tour- nament. All wrestling team members had a great season! We wish good luck and good bye to our graduating co-captains Ham and Heath Beatson who will be con- tinuing their wrestling career at the Brock University National Training Centre in St. Catherines. They have given our team and our school a great reputation in the Canadian wrestling community and they will be missed.
