CCI had 6 competitors in the 1999 Senior Math Competition. The grade 12 contest was written by Sasa Junuzivic, Natasha Sunderji, Chris Heiple! and Amanda Hickling. Sasa led the team to a 5'h place position in the zone which consists of Simcoe and Muskoka counties. The Descarte competition was completed by Sasa, Ashley George and Nirupama Somayajula. Sasa again earned the highest score in the school. He received two medals for his first place finishes in the two contests and Certificates if Distinction for finishing in the top 25% of all competitors in both contests. During the 4 years that Sasa attended CCI, he led the school teams to a first place finish in the Simcoe-.. Muskoka Junior Math League in 1996 and a first place finish in the zone in the '98 Fermat (Grade II) competition. Sasa is now attending the University of Waterloo studying Computer Science. In the spring of '99, Grade 9, 10 and II students from across Canada participated in the Canadian Mathematics Competition. Forty seven students
from CCI wrote the contest and a Certificate of Distinction was awarded to students in the top 25 % ofthe contests. Congratulations are extended to Adam Brady, Josh Bonham, Jennifer Buie, Cheryl Kemsley, Kristen Sinclair and Lori Hutchinson who received certificates. Jon Proctor and Jeff Roest, both in grade 10, and Sara Richmire, our highest scoring Grade II student also achieved scores in the top 25% of the participants.
GAIA, the school 's environmental group is dedicated to pre- serving the environment around the school and the world. The Green Action lniative Alliance has been around CCI for many years and was involved in such activities as the ·Adopt- A- Fish' Program, tree planting around the school, a composting program in the cafeteria and various other events in and around the Collingwood area.
This year, CCI saw the stan of a new cluh. The Truk J Club and although it's numbers wen: very small. its ' accomplishments were huge. Atlcr a great deal o f training . Miriam Kellar and Robert Smith were then qualified to teach children with physical and mcmal handicaps the joys of downhill skiing. Each weekend, along with Ms. Greer. the
Track 3 Club joincd dozens ofother volunleers to assist in this worthwhile cause.
We have changed our name! Out with the old ' lnterschool Christian Fellowship' and in with the new QUENCH! We are a vibrant and visible group of Christian teens whom meet every Monday at noon to Jearn, teach and encourage each other in Christ, the group is open to all students in grade 9 to OAC. The regular crowd includes Miriam Keller, Tara Mae Bristow, Mike Stanley, John Tjeerdsma, Christopher Proctor, Kristina Leno, Matt Leno, BJ Cox, Chad Marshall, Brandi Davidson, Counnie Davidson, Melissa Knight, Matt Bell, Lindsay Simerson, Erika Engel, Nicole Lequyere, Danielle Merritt, Laura Noordegraaf, Jor Noordegraaf, Jessica Breitenfeld, Kristen Sinclair,.Jessica Cox, Jessica Theyers, Sara Denbok, Andrew Arnold and Shruthi D'Souza.
