In their inaugural season, the CCI Varsity Girls Hockey Team finished with
3 wins and 3 losses, to finish in fourth place out of nine teams. The Fighting
Owls began the season with an impressive 6-0 win over Bear Creek of Barrie.
The Owls then lost back to back games to Jean Vanier and Stayner by scores
3-2 and 3-1. The team fought back with 2 more decisive victories over Bear
Creek (6-0) and Banting of Alliston (6-2). The season ended quickly for the
girls with a 3-lloss to Alliston. Goal scorers for the Fighting Owls were
Andrea Bevan with 7 goals, Cheryl Kemsley with 5 goals, Jade Graham 3
goals, Karey Cummings and and Joanne Peddle with 2 goals, and single
tallies my Shannon Huxtable, Helaina Hamilton and Stacey Prokopec. The
goaltending tandem of Krystal Philion and Kayley Dankevy were solid
throughout the season combining for the 3 wins and 2 shutouts while ..,....!"5"'1"......,....,.,...,~~-.-.._­ allowing only 11 goals against. The team was never without hustle laed by
Rychelle Stoagi, Amanda MacDonald, Paige Meesters, Jeena Mcintyre and Jackie Pampalone. And who could forget the converted figure skaters Lisa Horner, Carling Ellis and Alanna Vignale. With several first time hockey players, the owls began the season in late May with skill development sessions. With much enthusiasm the tryouts for the season progresses into late October with dryland training. This leadto 6:15am practices that the girls will never forget. After many drills, several penalties, body checking, Xmas lunch, Vanilla smelling sweaters, far too many golf balls, broken helmets, ponytails that needed adjusting and a plethora of laughs, the coaches were proud of the girls and flet it was a strong beginning to a potential dynasty. Remember you will always be the first Varsity team ever!!
