The team started their season at the prestigious University of Waterloo Invitational with their best finish ever, 3rd. They went undefeated in the round robin and easily took the1/4final match. They faced the defending AAAA OFSSA champs from London, but let a lead slip away and took home the bronze.
CCI hosted the 3rd annual Junior Boys tournament this year and went undefeated into the championship match against eventual winners, Eastview (who they faced 4x this season). A Bronze and a Silver so far.
The final tournament took the team back to Uxbridge where champions from 4 different regions were vying for the title. CCI won 3 of 4 in the round robin (losing to the tournament champions from Oshawa / Whitby) and faced last year's Champion Uxbridge in the semi-final. The boys fell apart in the first but stormed back in the second to force the tie-breaker. Some "home-court" calls seemed to deflate the Owls and they gained another bronze medal.
In the regular season the team accomplished 2 things that hadn't been done in over 20 years at CCI. Not only did they go 6-0 in league play, but they also got the nod as the favourite as they were seeded 1st.
CCI faced Barrie North in the semi-final match and tried to give coaches Cruse and Nischan ulcers, but they found a way to finally sink the Vikings from North in 5 sets to play for the championships against Eastview. They team faltered in the 1st, but as the great Live Twitter Feed stated they stormed back and lost a close second match 25-23, then won the 3rd 25-23. This was championship volleyball at its finest. Unfortunately the team fell to Eastview and another silver was claimed.
Eastview decided not to attend the Jr OFSSA championships at Bill Crothers in Unionville, so the "Fighting Owls- took on the opportunity. T h e Owls were awesome against Eden (undefeated on the year) from St Catherines (silver medalist). They lost 25-23, 25-22 to eventual Bronze Medalist's Sir John A MacDonald from Scarborough...oh did I mention they had a tough pool. The team easier handled the Metro Toronto champions in straight sets to finish in 5th place.
To say the season was a success would be understated (2 Silvers, 2 Bronzes and 5th at Jr. OFSSA). To say we reached all our goals would be false. This team was tenacious and had the "fighting" spirit as they often were down, but always battled back.
Coaches Cruse and Nischan are super—proud of this fine group of volleyball players and more infrtantly a fine group of young men.
